أَنْوَاعُ الكَلِمَاتِ فِي اللُّغَةِ العَرَبِيَّة – Types of Words in the Arabic Language (part 3)

Level: (beginner)

Principle: Types of Words in the Arabic Language.

There are three types of words that exist within the arabic language:

1. The Noun – ُالاسْم
2. The Verb – ُالفِعْل
3. The Particle – ُالحَرْف

In this week’s newsletter we shall focus on the particle and how to recognise it within the Arabic language.

What is a verb?

كَلِمَةٌ دَلَّتْ عَلَى مَعْنًى فِي غَيْرِهَا
It’s a word where its meaning becomes apparent and makes sense when mentioned next to other words.

Example of a particle being used in a sentance:

من – from

اسْمِي خَالِدٌ أَنَا مِنَ الْمَمْلَكَةِ الْمَتَّحِدَةِ
My name is Khalid, I am from the United Kingdom.

How can we recognise a particle in the Arabic language?

The particle in the Arabic language doesn’t accept any of the signs of the noun nor does it accept the signs of the verb so it can be identified through process of elimination.

Important note: there are many particles in the Arabic language that are of various different categories, meanings and functions. We shall cover a large number of these particles throughout our weekly newsletter so stay tuned!
